How to Spot Fake News, Malicious website, overall bunk
As we get into the final 100 days of the Presidential Election year, please do your best to spot fake news, malicious websites, and the like.
A good rule of thumb is that if it looks fishy, it probably is.

Non-Fiction that reads like Fiction
Sometimes you want the information from a non-fiction book but you don't want it so academic sounding. That's where Novelist Plus can help!Novelist Plus, a service available by clicking on Books & More on the left hand side of the Culpeper County Library homepage and clicking on Novelist Plus for where you're currently sitting (There's one for in-library use and remote/at home access).
By entering "GX nonfiction that reads like fiction" into the keyword search bar with the GX capitalized, you'll get a list of titles that have been sourced by other librarians working with Novelist on just such a thing.

Graphic Novels aren't just for kids!
Graphic novels are a great way to see the character emotions and get those subtle nuances that the author intends but may not be interpreted. The language and vocabulary is very specific to ensure that the right word not only fits in the bubble but fits what action. Oh and they're really fun to read!
Find many classic titles at Culpeper County Library for books such as "Anne Frank's diary" : the graphic adaptation of the Diary of Anne Frank, "Beowulf", "Animal Farm", and many more!
All these are located in the Non-Fiction section 741.5. Many titles are also available in Young Adult 741.5 too!

2020 Census
The 2020 Census is upon us!
Health clinics. Fire departments. Schools. Even roads and highways. (And of course Libraries!!!) The census can shape many different aspects of your community.
Starting July 27th, US Census workers will be here at Culpeper County Library every Monday (10-1 pm) and Wednesday (1-5 pm) for the next several weeks. Stop by their table for assistance on filling out the census or to ask questions.

- Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.
- The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.
- It's mandated by the U.S. Constitution in Article 1, Section 2: The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790.

Culpeper Cares - Small Business Recovery Grant - *ACT NOW!*
ATTENTION BUSINESS OWNERS & NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS OPERATING IN CULPEPER COUNTY
Between now and July 21, Culpeper County and the Town of Culpeper are administering $3.3M in small business and 501c3 grants locally in a program is called Culpeper Cares. More information can be found at this link https://visitculpeperva.com/culpepercaressmallbusinessrecoverygrant.aspx
The application is 100% online and most users are able to complete a fillable PDF and scan and upload documents.
The Culpeper County Library is offering complimentary basic business services including internet access, use of our PCs, document scanning, and printing to those who come in strictly for the purpose of applying for the grant. Photocopying is not included with this free service, it is always a $0.15 (15 cents) per page per side. This offer for free printing in association with the Culpeper Cares application ends on Tuesday July 21. So act now before its too late!
Please inform the Information Desk upon arrival that you are here to apply for Culpeper Cares. The Information Desk staff will only provide minimal instruction on how to use the computer and to get to the website. If you think you'll need assistance at all during the application process, please bring someone who can assist you.
If you are a small business or non-profit organization that would like basic training on how to navigate grant search engines like grants.gov, please schedule an appointment with the Adult Services Librarian.
